A proposal: A Thursday Deathmach with SG 1.1b5

A Thursday Deathmach played in SG 1.1b5 would help debugging the new beta.

If you haven’t installed it yet, here is the link.
The installation is very easy since it’s a full SG release, not only an update as it was for SG 1.1b4. Just download it, unzip it and run the right executable (in Windows it’s smokinguns.exe).

Terra Nova is now compatible with the Beta 5. TheDoctor has activated 3 new maps in TN, and posted a nice table with all maps details in SG forum. The first time you’ll connect to TN with Beta 5 you’ll have to download a lot of bites, but probably after 5-10 minutes you’ll have all the necessary things in place. Don’t forget to allow Auto download and to backup your q3config.cfg.

Since today is Tuesday, maybe we’ll have enough time to install and test everything and to propose the maps we’d like to play on Thursday evening.

    …here are a lot of birthdays, much work, some family-meetings and the last eleven days also a little bit sick (very much headache). i have testet for a short time sg (it is a while ago), at the day, but it is no good for headache. specifically at late evening is this not good for me… there i drink my warm milk and go early sleep. i am looking forward to the future, if i healty again, i will go be back to the team-evening. so long i will maybe short look at the game, only for a short possible while, to test the new version and the options…

    Wiskey, Sarah, SAPE and me. We decided to play for fun, so we tested two new(er) maps. The small one I liked very much, will make a nice one for future clanwars (hope more folks will join in the future…what’s happening Clan. Were was JJY, slowly, mope…? πŸ™ )
    the 1.5 did its job very good!

    @Jippy, @Whisky: JHoff10 posted some screenshots of missing textures in the SG forum and I was able to identify the problem: joekarimat1.pk3 wasn’t referenced and therefore downloaded, but many maps seem to depend on it. I always thought, joekarimat2.pk3 superceded joekarimat1.pk3, hence my mistake. Should be fixed now, but remember to \cl_allowdownload 1 and to \reconnect, if you miss something :-p

    It’s a pity but can’t play today, my friends were asking why i don’t go out on thursday. πŸ™‚ So i do it once. Hope everything go al right with the 1.5, and the new maps. Make screens and have fun.

    Update:
    After copying all *.pk3 from C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Smokin’ Guns\smokinguns to C:\Program Files (x86)\smokin guns\smokinguns find the missing textures.

    It seems that SG 1.1b5 need also some *.pk3 files in C:\Program Files (x86)\smokin guns\smokinguns.

    by install yesterday, i have mixed old and new files (and i had also on few maps the some grey screen like wiskey πŸ™‚ …i will test it today with new separate folders… thx!!

    As TheDoctor writes (http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&p=23547#p23547), use the following commands to solve particular problems connected to Beta 5 in BB/SB/TN:

    – If you don’t see the right textures, \cl_allowdownload 1 and \reconnect
    – If you don’t hear the right sounds, \cl_allowdownload 1 and \reconnect
    – If it claims “Invalid .PK3 referenced”, \cl_allowdownload 1 and \reconnect

    Don’t mix old and new files. Unzip the Beta in your desktop and run it from there.

    No problem, Wiskey. You can reinstall the old SG 1.0, and SG 1.1b4 in usual place, and re-unzip SG 1.1b5 in your desktop.

    That’s so NOT lame! I’m in!
    (still, I have to try the 1.5, hope it runs stable, also on Linux (@Biondo: I’m able to run SG on Ubuntu, works good so far, just have to import my settings again and I’m online with the broken laptop again!).

    I can connect finely, but my screen is grey, and graphics are strange. Like picmic 9 but only grey. I can’t get screenshot, i don’t know why, but it seems that I have to play with 1.1b4. Can anyone help?

      @Whisky: grey, strange graphics is an indicator for missing textures (the server misses some pk3 file). This was possible earlier, because the server didn’t tell the client all the necessary files to download. This behavior however should be corrected since monday.

      Just in case, it is still a problem for you, open console and type

      \sv_referencedPakNames
      \fdir *.pk3
      \condump

      and post the dump.

      Are you sure you haven’t mixed together you old installation with new files?

    If your SG1.1b5 installation quits when you join a server, it can’t find all the necessary files to join the server.

    You need to connect to a server that provides downloads (BB, SB, TN) and you need to \cl_allowdownload 1 beforehand!

      Yes, you can’t connect to all servers with Beta 5, but only to those that are compatible with it. It’s still a beta release and not all servers are ready for it. But you can keep 2 different versions of SG, one to play in SG 1.0 servers and one to play in SG 1.1b5 ready servers.

      You can allow downloading in console (as TheDoctor suggested) or in game settings, as I said in post.

      BTW, thank you Doc! (I’m sorry that your comment was marked as spam, I hadn’t time to check).

      The fact that BallerBude and SpecialBude are now SG 1.1b5 compatible is of the greatest importance. It probably means that an official SG 1.1 is coming. Also we all know that SG 1.1b4 had many crashes, maybe SG 1.1b5 solved the problem, so I invite you all to use it.

    hm, on my system run the new version only offline. if i want, to go to a online-server (with monster-browser or direct with sg), i become an error and sg close… but, my old version run perfect…

    Yes, it works well. I hadn’t crashes, but I need to use it much more to say that it doesn’t crash.

    I can’t promise I will play, the time is too early for me.

    Ok I installed a few weeks ago, works perfect. But didn’t tried TN, will do that.
    Maybe we can play on the 3 new maps?
