I wrote to Téquila asking him to fix the situation in forum homepage including the link to SG 1.1 either atop of forum lists (as it was until last week) or as the first download link in Archives –> Downloads.

My problem was in trying to run the game, taken from the SG forum Downloads Page: http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewforum.php?f=41 Something is probably wrong in those files.

You downloaded first the Release Candidate (SG RC1), not the Release. Only the final and published version of a software called Release. Conclusion, you downloaded the wrong version.
Yeah, of course, you right Jippi. But see, it not written anywhere else. For me , the lame user, RC could mean also “runs clean” or “really cool” release. Try to enter the lamer mind, Jippi ))

It’s not that difficult, I think.
– remove (or move to a different directory) your old game directory
– remove (or move to a different directory) also your user SG directory. Keep q3config.cfg (and eventually other config files you have created) for future use. To know where to find your user SG directory, see this FAQ http://lameclan.altervista.org/blog/faq/configuration-file/
– download ‘OS Independent archive’ from here: http://www.smokin-guns.org/downloads (alternatively, you can download the ‘Windows installer’)
– extract it where you want
– open the game and allow downloading via settings menu or via console (\seta cl_allowdownload 1)
– play
If it works, overwrite your new q3config.cfg with the old one.
Attention: In case the problem is a repeated download of the file baseq3/pak0.pk3, follow these instructions: http://forum.smokin-guns.org/viewtopic.php?p=23967&f=34#p23967
Attention: With SG 1.1 you won’t be able to play in Jeuxlinux and other servers that haven’t upgraded to 1.1 yet.

unzip the files at a new folder.
then replace the old baseq3-folder-files with the new baseq3-folder-files.
…and then: do the same with all(*) of files from the new underfolder “smokinguns”.
(*) but attention: do not overwrite your old default.cfg!!! if you not want replace your own player-configuration 😉

I cannot play Ballerbude because of the “vm_create on UI failed” problem. I reinstalled the game, allowed downloads, but there is somenthing wrong with “bad checksum” when downloading “pako.pk3″ etc. files. How to solve it?
May be installing the older version of SG would help? Can you share the link to the proper version with me?

The server is upgrade to SG1.1.
You must download SG1.1.

Hey guys I downloaded the pack yesterday and it works perfectly. Btw the maps of Terra NOva are also in Ballerbude now. 🙂

I did it, Jippi, several times, from different packs, all of them, still can’t connect.
Just download SG1.1.zip and extract it in a separate Folder “Smokin’ Guns 1.1”.
Thats all, it works for me.
I think there are many many many people with the same problem, because it’s all day that I see players trying to connect, without success.
Please, post a comment in forum. The more persons complaining, the faster will be an answer.
Hmm. No matter how hard I tried, switched the files, launched all possible versions, downloaded 2 times… nothing works, the same error shows up. I see there are other people on the forum with the same problem. Hope they’ll fix it soon, it’s frustrating.
Ah I was thinking I was the only one..Get the same error Mope! I’ll try 1.1, see if I got it somewhere…GL!
I can’t connect now. I’m getting the message that it’s trying to download “sg_pak0.pk3” file from the server, no matter that I’ve updated all the files from the new download pack (from the SG site). It never succeeds in downloading this file.

Ballerbude, Special Bude and terra Nova are now using SG 1.1. You shouldn’t experience problems connecting, but if you do try playing with SG 1.1 (released today).
