On the LAMEness of dot TK

dear Lamers and new readers,

we have a hell of a week behind us. Monsterserver gets down, SG site gets down, SG as a name has to change. And to make it complete:
My registred .tk name for the blog is taken away by dot TK, the provider of this awesome URL shortener.

Why? First I believed I was to late to renew the domain, you have to renew it for free once a year. But I checked and I did so.
Probably we’re just making to much traffic after one year, and in this case – or just after one year of registration- they drop your URL.
This is the message I got:

‘You are registering a SPECIAL domain.

What is a special domain?

ย This is a domain, which is of greater commercial value than a Free Domain, or even the typical Paid Domain. The criteria for a domain to be considered a SPECIAL DOMAIN, is a small number of characters (1, 2, or 3 characters, such as “a.tk”, “rs.tk”, or “abc.tk”). Or it may fall into a range of words or terms that have been identified as having greater value. For this reason, the annual registration fee is greater than for a typical Paid Domain.

We would be delighted to complete the registration for the SPECIAL DOMAIN that you have selected. It is likely to become a great piece of Internet Real Estate. With all of the good .com names already taken, it is a great idea to get your .TK now, while it is still available!

In addition to allowing users to register a Paid Domain and SPECIAL DOMAIN, Dot TK also offers you the opportunity to register a Free Domain . These are domains that can be registered for FREE and are pointed to or forwarded to an existing, live URL.”

So I checked the FREE domains. lameclanbb, lameclansg, sglameclan, lameclan2 are still free (Hooray ๐Ÿ™ )

BUT: I took some initiative and registred www.lame-clan.tk for now.
hope you all agree.

I feel bad about this, especially now with the official SG-site going down.
I thing we should write them (dot TK) to reconsider, because I didn’t get a warning, they just mailed me to renew, and I did so!

Anyone who has the time and the english to help me writing an e-mail to change their mind, feel free.

OK guys as you know i’am on facebook, and there are a few groups of SG players, all the good players are in the groups. SO it’s easy to give a link to them with our new site.

  3. Biondo says:

Ok, I see. The little dash is called Hyphen, I think.

I found 3 sites in Google referencing to our old URL:

    http://sg-wars.forumotion.net/t3-sg-clan-list (SG-wars’ clan list)
    http://sg-bb.jimdo.com/other-clans/ (BB clan)
    http://ninja-clan.jimdo.com/clans/ (Ninja clan)

Who wants to contact their webmasters in order to correct the link?

lameclan has a greater value. LOL.
anyway, lame-clan.tk works as well, Biondo (without the www).
I just added the little dash inbetween (whats the word for it in English?) that’s all that changed.
But we lose the people anyway who type in their browser lameclan.tk. They get this type of scam-sites, without a reference to our new adress. I’m very unhappy about it.

So in which of 2 cases are we?

    – The word “lameclan” “falls into a range of words or terms that have been identified as having greater value” LOL

    – Or, the word “www” is “a small number of characters”?

http://www.lame-clan.tk is OK, but I’d liked more lameclan.tk (without the www. prefix), and maybe without “www” we aren’t in the condition for a “Special domain”. np

“… Anyone who has the time and the english to help me writing an e-mail to change their mind …” I have time, but Sarah has English ๐Ÿ˜‰ What do you think Sarah? Anyway i don’t think we’ll make them change their mind, honestly.
